Newsflash

The 2009 GERS report shows that Scotland has had a budget surplus for  the last three years of almost £2.3 billion.  Scotland stands on a firm financial footing - firmer than the UK as a whole.

YES We Can WIN here

Alyn Smith MEP would like to thank everyone who voted SNP in the European Elections. Our support in the Westminster seat has trebled when compared to the 2005 general election result.  Edinburgh South is now a 4 way marginal seat with all to play for.

Edinburgh South 2007 list result

Labour  7703

SNP       6515

Lib Dem 5808

Tory       4918

At the most recent election contest in Edinburgh South  for the European Parliament in June 2009 (using the Westminster seat boundaries)  the SNP were only 120 votes behind Labour and throughout Edinburgh more voters supported the SNP than any other party while the Liberal Democrats fell to 4th place.

All this makes a nonsense of Lib Dems charts and figures which rely on outdated results and bear no relationship to the  current popularity of Alex Salmond and the SNP Scottish government.

Together we've got what it takes

 RECOVERY FOR SCOTLAND

Alex SalmondAll across Scotland families feel the impact of the global downturn.  We face tough times and big challenges.   But I have no doubt that Scotland's got what it takes to weather the storm and come out of this situation strong. Our Recovery for Scotland plan is already helping households and businesses through the downturn.         It is ensuring our nation is poised to recover first and strongest.  It will put Scotland on course to lead the big industries of to-morrow like clean, green renewable energy.  This year our capital investment will protect 50,000 jobs and our recovery plan 8,000 more.          Jobs, skills and investment - the plan is in place to recover, grow and prosper once more.      I know that together we've got what it takes.

Westminster's dirty tricks exposed

On 6th March BBC Alba showed the documentary "Diomhair" (Secrets) made by Caledonia TV and respected journalist George Rosie but ignored by most of Scotland's newspapers including The Scotsman group.

The TV documentary showed how official UK government documents, which backed up the viability of Scottish independence and proved that billions of Scotland's Oil revenues had bankrolled successive London governments, were suppressed and kept hidden from the Scottish public for over 30 years - yet the self same government ministers knowingly misled the Scottish people by claiming that Scotland would be like Albania or Bangladesh and could not survive and prosper without London's largesse.
It revealed that for the past fifty years, Labour and Conservative UK governments have shared a common agenda - stopping Scottish self government at all costs regardless of the methods used.
The programme showed how both London parties resorted to spying and underhand tactics to discredit the SNP, its members and supporters. It showed how politicians and civil servants tried to obstruct independence and revealed how civil servants, MI5 and Special Branch, were used by Westminster to obstruct and even sabotage the Scottish Nationalist movement.

As the BBC refuses to show the programme on its main channels, you can watch the programme by going to this link:

The first few clips deal with attempts to discredit the post war growth of the Scottish self government movement while Parts 5 and 6 deal with the rise of the SNP and North Sea Oil.
